APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION INTO FULL-TIME POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES FOR THE 2025/2026 ACADEMIC SESSION
The aim of the School of Postgraduate Studies at PUMS is to further develop the spirit of enquiry in the graduate students, through training in research, in an atmosphere of intellectual independence and individual creativity, combined with a strong sense of team work.
In pursuit of the above aim:
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for full-time admissions into the postgraduate programmes of PAMO University of Medical Sciences (PUMS), Port Harcourt, for the 2025/2026 academic session, leading to the award of Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in the following Departments:

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURE
1. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1.1 Postgraduate Diploma
The following candidates may apply for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma Programme (for Medical Laboratory Science only):
1.1.1 Graduates from approved Universities who hold a BMLS degree at Third Class grade.
1.1.2 Registration with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
1.2 Master’s Degree
The following candidates may apply for admission into the Master of Science Programmes:
1.2.1 Graduates from approved Universities who have obtained their Bachelor’s degrees in the
relevant areas, with at least a Second-Class Lower grade.
1.2.2 Candidates with unclassified degrees, should have a minimum overall grade of C (50%).
1.2.3 Holders of Postgraduate Diploma in the proposed field of study from recognized
institutions with CGPA of 3.00 and above on a 5-point scale.
1.2.4 Candidates with the Fellow, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (FMLSCN)
in the relevant specialty area, may apply into Medical Laboratory Science, only.
1.3 Doctor of Philosophy
The following candidates may apply for admission into the PhD programmes:
1.3.1 Graduates from approved Universities who have obtained their Master’s degrees in the
proposed field of study, with CGPA of 3.5 and above, on a 5-point scale.
2.0 DURATION OF THE PROGRAMMES
2.1 Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
Minimum duration: Two (2) Semesters; Maximum duration: Three (3) Semesters.
2.2 Master of Science (MSc) Degree
Minimum duration: Three (3) Semesters; Maximum duration: Five (5) Semesters.
2.3 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Minimum duration: Six (6) Semesters; Maximum duration: Nine (9) Semesters.
3.0 METHOD OF APPLICATION

Step 1: Fill out the form by providing the data in all the fields, and click on “Proceed”.
Step 2: The System will automatically log you in and redirect you to your dashboard where you will complete the remainder of the form.
Step 3: Kindly note the account details for the application fee. Make the required payment and upload payment evidence, without which you cannot submit your application.
Step 4: After submitting your final application, print your completed Application Form, and
Transcript Request Form. Send the transcript request form to your former institution for your academic transcripts. Remember to indicate any change of name should in the transcript request form.
Step 5: Print the application after you submit as it may be required of you as the admission process continues.
NOTE: You can always login with your email address and password to continue your application before you submit or to see the status of your application.

Applicants should please note the following:
1. Always check their email for the latest information from the university.
2. Include the names and contacts of three referees, of which, at least two must be academics of not lower than Senior Lecturer rank.
3. Master’s degree applicants, while submitting their forms, should upload a synopsis of their last degree research of not more than one (1) type-written page.
The synopsis should be in this format:

4. PhD applicants, while submitting their forms, should upload a research proposal of not more than five (5) type-written pages.
The proposal should be in this format:

c. Proposed Title (not more than 21 words)
d. Brief Background of the Study
e. Aim and Objectives
f. Methodology
g. Expected Outcomes
h. References
Application Process for the 2025/2026 Session.
- Sale of Form begins on the 24th November, 2025, and ends on 7th January, 2026.
- Submission of Form ends on 11th January, 2026.
- Transcripts, either hard or soft copy should be forwarded to the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies, PUMS not later than 11th January, 2026.
- Soft copies of transcripts may be forwarded to: spgs@pums.edu.ng from institutional e-mail addresses only.
- Master’s degree applicants, while submitting their forms, should upload a Synopsis of their last degree research (not more than one (1) type-written page).
- PhD applicants, while submitting their forms, should upload a Proposal of their thesis (not more than five type-written pages)
- PhD applicants may be invited for Proposal Defense on a date to be communicated.
N.B: Notwithstanding compliance with the above conditions, all admissions offered are
provisional, and the School of Postgraduate Studies, PUMS, reserves the right to offer, confirm or deny admission.
